The Current > Reviews

“The fish and chips features a nice portion of battered cod, nicely fried and ungreasy, with white flaky flesh under the golden jacket. As with any seafood restaurant, success depends of freshness. This new place will do fine if it keeps things current."

- Scott Joseph, Orlando Restaurant Critic

“When Lombardi's Seafood, just a couple of miles away, closed the café portion of its business two years ago, it left a hole for folks craving a decent piece of fish and some fritters. Fortunately, the Current fills it, and then some."

– Faiyaz Kara, Orlando Weekly Restaurant Critic

“The chunks of lobster are sizable, and the sandwich isn't overly laden with mayo. For Nutmeggers, Maine's finest catch comes sauteed in brown butter. If you ask me which version I like more, I'd honestly tell you: both.”

– Faiyaz Kara, Orlando Weekly Restaurant Critic

"The Current’s mahi sandwich [is] as beautifully done as any mahi handheld could be — seared well enough to remain composed but beautifully tender. This fish is so often overcooked, in particular in casual, churn-it-out seafood settings."

– Amy Drew Thompson, Orlando Sentinel Food and Dining Reporter

I just popped in for Fish and Chips for a late lunch and I'm utterly blown away how cooked to perfection everything was, especially the fish. Lightly battered and cooked incredibly moist, the fish just fell apart with the touch of a fork! I can't wait to return and bring my father, we've gotta try the lobster rolls next. Oh, and while I feel like portions everywhere are getting smaller because of the economy, and prices go up, I was pleasantly surprised to get a very filling meal for a fair price. I first thought the prices were high, but totally understand the pricing for the quality and quantity received. Will gladly spend that money again!

We live in College park and have visited 3 times so far. I love Lobster but typically avoid Lobster Rolls because I don’t like mayo at all. Discovered the Connecticut role and have been hooked. Very fresh and worth the price. Comfortable atmosphere and Gordon Ramsey would be smiling instead of screaming for once if he were to ever stop in. We don’t drink anymore and would love to see an NA beer option if that’s ever something the restaurant would consider. Best of luck with your continued success.

The Current is a serious addition to college park neighborhood eateries! The catfish (a fav fish of mine since childhood in the bayou) was flavorful, lightly battered, crispy and tender- delish! The corn hush puppies are also tender and perfectly fried crisp - delish and i do like the sriracha aioli with those. Broccoli slaw also delish but the portion seems a bit small- skinny fries with old bay also yum! FYI, i love that there are picnic tables under cover outside for ambiance and people watching. Service was friendly and fast! Overall, The Current is my new neighborhood favorite spot!

Where to start, Coming in the door your are greeted by a friendly staff who are very not just strive but caring that you have an amazing experience. Once you receive your food let the true joy begin. I had the fish and chips for $17 dollars, and they were delicious the fish was fresh and flavorful the batter crispy and the portion was reasonable i was full, a small side of sweet slaw is given to cut through the fried food. The fries were excellent as well. As side I ordered the hush puppies for 6 dollars they were crispy and had a shuttle spicy kick as you finished. This place is fire!!!!!!!!

We got here right before lunch rush. Ordered food, and within a few minutes, we got our food. It was delicious and the quantity was just right. 10/10 would recommend. We had it at the restaurant, my fish and chips were perfect, best of all time. The shrimp scampi my husband had was the best he had. Would definitely come back for some more delicious seafood.

So happy to welcome The Current to College Park! Start off with some clam chowder, it’s loaded with potatoes and clams and flavor! I also ordered the fish n chips and I’m IN LOVE. Flakey and delicious! Not greasy or heavy. Also love that the chips/fries are not thick soggy steak fries, I’ll take a crispy fry over a soggy fry any day. My husband had the fried grouper sandwich and I couldn’t even get a picture for the review before he devoured it! Looking forward to make my way through the whole menu, can’t go wrong!

We got there right before closing, maybe 6 minutes, not knowing their hours. The dining area is looking perfect, super clean. The sweet girl at the counter is counting her drawer so we confirm they’re closing and apologize for being so late. She insisted we please come in and eat multiple times so we did. We asked for it togo, even though they welcomed us to dine in. Our food came out fast. It was very nicely, sustainably packaged. As soon as we got in the truck we got into it; it smelled so good! We got fried shrimp, blacked shrimp skewers, fried fish sandwich with fries, fried okra and a Caesar salad. It was delicious! All of it. So fresh, crispy salad with fresh shaved parm and fresh croutons. The batter for the fish was beautiful as well as the fried shrimp and okra. Service was great. Food was delicious and I will be back promptly for the clam chowder & hot peel & eat shrimp & shrimp pasta.. Very excited for the much needed addition to our community.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the The Current Seafood Counter in College Park. We have been waiting for a good seafood spot to open in our neighborhood. Everything is so fresh, and owner Mike cares about his food, customers and prices. No better place in town for seafood.
