What kind of restaurant is The Current?
The Current is Northeast-inspired seafood that’s meant to be casual, approachable, and eaten more than once a year. Think lobster rolls, shrimp scampi, blackened mahi, cold beer, and good conversation. Seafood like they do it from Maryland to Maine. Everyday food, not a special occasion stunt.
Do you have more than one location?
Yes. Two locations, same philosophy.
The Current Seafood Bar
Historic Downtown Sanford
116 East 1st Street
The Current Seafood Counter
College Park, Orlando
2425 Edgewater Drive
Each location has its own vibe, but the food and mindset are very much related.
What’s the difference between the Sanford location and College Park?
Sanford is a relaxed coastal tavern experience with cocktails, beer, and a little more room to linger.
College Park is a bright, casual neighborhood counter that’s great for lunch, quick dinners, and easy hangs.
Same food DNA. Different personalities.
Is this counter service or table service?
Both locations are counter service. You order at the counter, we bring the food, and you get to relax without waiting for someone to drop a check every five minutes. You’re welcome.
Do you take reservations?
No reservations. We’re first come, first served, like a proper seafood spot should be. Turnover is usually quick, and the bar is always a solid option.
Do you have a raw bar?
Yes, Sanford does.
The raw bar at our Sanford location is currently in a quiet soft-launch phase. Availability may vary as we roll things out the right way. If you’re curious, ask when you’re in or keep an eye on our socials. We promise not to rush it.
Does College Park have a raw bar?
Not yet. College Park is focused on counter classics, sandwiches, rolls, and easy favorites. One thing at a time, folks.
What are your hours?
Sanford
Thursday–Saturday: 12–9 PM
Sunday: 12–8 PM
Closed Monday–Wednesday
College Park
Sunday: 11 AM–4 PM
Monday–Saturday: 11 AM–9 PM
Hours can shift seasonally, so checking Google before you head out is never a bad idea.
Do you serve alcohol?
Yes. Both locations offer beer and wine. Sanford also has cocktails. Nothing fussy, nothing trendy for the sake of it. Just good drinks that belong with seafood.
Do you offer takeout or online ordering?
Absolutely. Both locations offer online ordering for takeout. Links are available on each location’s page. Seafood at home is still a win.
Is your menu the same every day?
Core favorites are consistent, but seafood is seafood. Availability can change based on season, sourcing, and what looks good that day. If you want something specific, ask. We like talking about food.
Where did the concept come from?
Founder Mike Smith grew up eating seafood regularly in Maryland and New Jersey and later lived in Portland, Maine. Up there, seafood isn’t a once-a-year beach thing. It’s just food. The Current exists to bring that everyday mindset to Central Florida.
Is this related to the original food hall concept?
Yes. The Sanford Seafood Bar grew out of the original Seafood Counter concept. Same chef, same brain, more room to stretch its legs.
Do you have parking?
Both locations have nearby street parking. Downtown Sanford and College Park operate like real neighborhoods, so a short walk may be involved. You’ll survive.
